Welcome to the CPAP Planet online store.  We offer a large variety of sleep apnea equipment from the leading manufactures (Fisher & Paykel, Invacare, Puritan Bennett, ResMed, Respironics, and Sunrise Medical).  If you are overwhelmed with the choices, give us a call or email us your questions.  Based on your sleeping style, different machines and mask work better for different people.  What do we mean by that?  Do you prefer to sleep on your back, stomach or side?  Do you normally sleep with your mouth open?  Are you Claustrophobic?  Answers to these and other questions can help determine what will work best for you. 

HERE ARE SOME OF OUR RECOMMENDATIONS: 

Some of the upgraded features on the machines can make a big difference in the quality of your sleep.  Your body’s natural response to cold, dry air is for your nose to swell and create mucus.  This can lead to some airway obstruction, countering what you are trying to accomplish with your sleep apnea equipment.  It’s for this reason we recommend a heated humidity to all of our patients.  

Auto-titrating machines start with a very low-pressure setting.  This can make it much easier for some patients to fall asleep.  The machine will gradually build up the pressure to the appropriate levels based our your condition.  

If you sleep with your mouth open, you will either need a full face mask or a chin strap if you are using a nasal mask.  If you sleep with your mouth open with a nasal only mask, your pressure will go straight through your nose and out your mouth.  This will cause the following: You will get a very dry mouth, your equipment will not do its job, and you will wake up.

If you prefer a nasal mask, you may want to have a full-face mask for a back up.  If you catch a cold and have nasal congestion that prevents your from breathing through your nose, you will not be able to use your equipment.

If you are a newly diagnosed sleep apnea patient, be patient.  The CPAP equipment can take some time to get used to.  Remember we are here to help you.  Have a great night’s sleep.
